After almost a year and many public actions, including the Kite Festival at Locktow and the Saturday market at Kollwitzplatz, the current phase of our work on behalf of Muhammad Bekzhanov culminated in a short, peaceful protest in front of the Uzbek Embassy.
We had informed the embassy by letter that we would be coming and, lo and behold, there was a paper notice on the gate of the embassy telling us that the “consular services were closed that day”. But we didn’t let that deter us. We vigorously chanted our “freedom for Muhammad” slogans and then, after a failed attempt to get someone to come to the gate, we posted all 64,000 signatures in their post box.
Our extra-large banner, with its hundreds of signatures, will live to fight another day.
