Walking for Human Rights
What an amazing success the 2015 10k Walk was! Our final total was €2145, which makes this walk our most successful ever!
A total of 25 people participated, enjoying the perfect weather and our new route through historic Berlin.
We are particularly grateful to Herr Haase and the team at the Prater Biergarten for providing a great starting point. Before setting off, we signed appeal postcards against torture in Nigeria, which we posted en route.
The mood was good and a lot of Amnesty yellow was to be seen as we marched off along Eberswalder Straße to the Mauerpark flea market. There we spontaneously decided to spend 15 minutes collecting signatures and rattling our collecting tins.
The new route then took us through the Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer and through the Scheunenviertel to Hackescher Markt. After posting our appeals to Nigeria, we stopped for more photos and another round of collecting at the Lustgarten.
Time was racing on and some of us were beginning to think we'd not make it to Tiergarten in daylight, but once we hit the river near the Bundestag, our pace picked up markedly, and the last few kilometres flew by.
Thank you to everyone who took part or otherwise supported the walk, and a big thank you to everybody who sponsored us.
What better way to raise awareness of human rights violations, to campaign against torture and raise money for our work -- all in one go.
