Following in the Cambodian subgroup's footsteps, we have produced a poster/photo exhibition highlighting the devastating oil pollution in the Niger Delta region. Unlike the efforts taken to clean up the recent Gulf of Mexico oil spill, pollution in the Niger Delta has been undermining people's livelihoods for over 50 years. Both the government and the oil companies operating in the region have a responsibility to uphold human rights, but their current practice is neglecting several rights, including the right to an adequate standard of living, the right to clean water and the right to health. With this exhibition, which is based on research conducted by Amnesty in 2009, we are trying to raise awareness of this situation and call on people to take action.
So far the exhibition has made stops at:
Planned venues include Volkshochschule Tempelhof-Schöneberg.
