English-speaking group Berlin (1312)

On the 10th December 1948 the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Around the anniversary of this memorable day, human rights activists of Amnesty International all over the world collect signatures on protest letters against selected cases of human rights abuse. We call this annual event The Letter-Writing Marathon.

On the 10th December 2018, we have had our own Letter-Writing Marathon at the Grimm Library in Berlin Mitte. In collaboration with the Amnesty International students’ group at the Humboldt University, we collected in eight hours altogether 443 signatures. We laid our focus on the case of Iranian anti-death penalty activist Atena Daemi and South African activist and land defender Nonhle Mbuthuma.
