On December 10th, the International Day of Human Rights, we collected signatures for Amnesty's 2016 Letter Writing Marathon at Grimm-Zentrum. As in previous years, the main building of Humboldt University Library proved to be a good place to talk to students, professors and external visitors.
Altogether, we collected 403 signatures. In the course of the day, 39 people signed postcards for Shawkan, an Egyptian photojournalist who has been imprisoned solely for doing his work; 162 people signed letters to increase protection of people with albinism in Malawi; and 202 people signed letters on behalf of Bayram Mammadov and Qiyas Ibrahimov, two students from Azerbeijan who have been imprisoned and tortured for spraying political graffiti.
Many thanks to Frau Tollkühn and the Library staff for their support.
