On September 5th 2015, our group joined other Amnesty members for a demonstration in front of the massive new complex built for the Bundesnachrichtendienst (one of Germany's three secret services) in Berlin Mitte. There, we were joined by activists from Reporters Without Borders, the Humanistische Union, Digitalcourage and the International League for Human Rights to express our demands.
A few months after we officially learned that Amnesty International had been constantly spied upon by the British GCHQ, we reiterated our demands for the end of indiscriminate surveillance (which the BND is conducting together with the NSA, GCHQ and other similar services), which goes directly against the right to privacy. We also asked the German government to finally reign in its secret services and to properly control their actions.
The action was a success, all the more so considering the complexity of this subject. Thank you to our members who attended; we will keep on working on the topic of human rights in the digital age!
